Message from the Mayor

As Mayor of the City of Tallmadge, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our website! We hope that the information we’ve provided for you will be helpful.

I was born and raised in Tallmadge and am proud to say that we are a city of history and tradition. From our unique Town Circle with the Old Town Hall and Historic Tallmadge Church, to our beautiful parks, Maca Pool Aquatic Center, state-of-the-art Recreation Center and excellent school system featuring a Western Reserve designed high school, Tallmadge has always been a great place to call home.

Tallmadge was founded in 1807 by the Reverend David Bacon as part of the Connecticut Western Reserve. It was Bacon who laid out our picturesque Circle based on the New England design of the day. Today, the Circle is still the central focal point of our community of over 18,000 people. We blend an Early American heritage with a present day Midwestern hospitality!

Our residents and community leaders have worked diligently to preserve the small town feel of Tallmadge while always looking ahead to the needs of our residents and businesses. Community services have always kept pace with the growth and expansion of the City. That coupled with our close proximity to both Akron and Cleveland via the expansive interstate highway system, have made Tallmadge an extremely attractive community for those looking for a small town environment close to the conveniences of a large city. Tallmadge is definitely one of northeast Ohio’s premier communities in which to live, work or raise a family.

I’m sure you will quickly grow to love our town just as all of us already do. We welcome you and hope that no matter how long you are here, your memories of Tallmadge will be great ones!
